Notes :
(1) Tony Willmore comments: This was just after Michael Fish's "no hurricane" warning, and there was some doubt that the tour would run at all. The letter with the tickets included the statement: "Finally, we are sorry to announce that our journey may terminate at Weymouth Town owing to problems on the Quay branch with a broken down boat (?). We can only apologise for this but were not advised by BR until late on Friday afternoon (23rd)". The tour DID go to the Quay but this was literally decided at a green signal outside Weymouth station where the driver persuaded the signalman to reroute us that way on the basis that there were enough blokes to shift cars etc. if they were in the way, and that we could turn back if the line was blocked (easy with a DMU!). The broken boat was one that had been lifted from the water with storm damage and propped up on oil drums and various bits of wood, all a bit precarious. The DMU's door handles passed with less than 1 inch to spare. Passengers detrained at the Quay, DMU returned to Town for servicing and fuel as ECS. Passengers re-boarded at Town.
