Notes :
(1) Howard Parker comments: The East Midlands Merrymaker literature had a tour identical to this advertised for 18th February 1984 but this tour was not in the literature. It is not known if the earlier trip actually ran or whether it had to be postponed to this date. The literature had the same pickup stations and return times were identical although outward times varied slightly. It is assumed that this train started at Wellingborough with a DMU connecting service from Burton on Trent calling at Derby, Long Eaton and Beeston to Nottingham in the morning and return in the evening as these were the details for the February trip. Another East Midlands excursion was running to London and was seen at Alfreton in the morning headed by 45103 and at Nottingham in the evening with 45116 in charge. During the break at Carlisle, the following were seen; 87017 on the northbound Clansman to Inverness, 87002 on an up train from Glasgow to Euston, the Stranraer to Euston changing from 47556 to 87031 and the Euston to Stranraer changing from 86209 to 47414. 45020 & 46017 were noted when passing Gateshead depot and 45050 & 46047 were stabled at York. The extended stop at Nottingham on the return was to allow a late running service train to London to precede the special.
