Notes :
(1)
Peter Finan comments: I awoke after leaving Carlisle to find the train had been diverted off the WCML and was stationary at Howe & Co sidings on the S&C. 47109 was stuck in the DGL and our train had no loco on and was very cold so it's possible 47109 had brought the train from Carlisle but with an inoperative boiler. 47416 turned up after some fifteen or twenty minutes. The E.T.S. warmed the train up as it made its way over the S&C in deep snow in the Garsdale & Blea Moor areas.
(2) Birmingham New Street passengers used service trains from Wolverhampton, Northampton passengers were advised to detrain at Rugby and use service trains also.
