Notes :
(1) Alan Osborn comments: Class 73, 73134, was provided at Folkestone Harbour to act as rear banker to assist this Hastings gauge DEMU back up the branch. Unfortunately not being one of the Hastings gauge 73's it was unable to couple, so DEMU had to climb unassisted. This was probably a contributory factor for the train failing on the Tilmanstone Colliery branch due to a lack of coolant. It was restarted by taking the water from the Train Toilet's supply using utensils found -  'Titfield Thunderbolt style'. Brian Halford however contests the comments regarding incompatibility of the 73 & DEMU: It is my understanding that all class 73s were built to Hastings gauge and all were compatible with Hastings DEMU's.
