T
our Review
(from Gordon Jakes)

37706 brought the empty stock into London Victoria with 44932 already attached at the country end. The class 37 also gave banking assistance as the train departed from Victoria but this was the last that was seen of the diesel. The Sussex Belle was the third special train to depart Victoria on this day – the first departure was hauled by 60163 and the second by 67003 (with the VSOE Pullman set).

In respect of 44932 and its performance there is little to say. The 10-coach train appeared to be well within the locos capability and the train was never more than six minutes adrift from the booked timings. The Black 5 appeared to be surefooted throughout the journey albeit that the rails were relatively dry and leaf fall had not really commenced. The day was a success and I was impressed by the condition and performance of 44932. As a Bullied fan I also have to say that 44932 was an excellent substitute for 34067 and put up a better performance particularly in terms of lack of wheel slip.
