Tour Review

Due to overrunning engineering works at Bristol Temple Meads, 6024 was unable to get off shed, and departure was 48mins late, total signal failure between roughly Aberthaw and Port Talbot Parkway, hand signalling seen, meant train was 2 hours 13 late from Port Talbot. Atrocious weather brought the King to a stand approaching Cockett West, was able to restart, brilliant piece of driving, and it then was announced that the tour would only go as far as Carmarthen, as the signalling problems had still not been resolved.

An amended departure time of 15.45 from Carmarthen was not met, due to difficulty in accessing the yard to coal and water the King, and also the need to turn the King on the triangle. Eventually left at 16.28 and passed Carmarthen Jn 28mins down on original scheduled timings. Original planned water stop at Llangennech was not needed and train ran to Port Talbot for water.
