(3) Nick Lawford comments: On the way back at Preston the Mk.1 vacuum stock needed a coach taken out but train was fully booked. LMR swapped over the charter set with a Euston to Carlisle (?) Mk.3 set, the Mk.1 rake going on the scheduled train and the Mk.3 rake to Caersws despite the no ETH on the 25's. The different 25's on the return were not planned : but 25042 was vacuum not dual braked so the other pair substituted being both dual braked. Dave Williams confirmed the shunt at Preston was performed by 08925 (defective carriage had suffered a hot 'box). Arrival back into
Caersws was at 1.15am because of the delays sorting out the coaching stock problem.
