John Clifford comments : This tour did not go according to plan. We left Waterloo without our guard who had to catch us up at Clapham Junction. On the way down we missed out the diversion via East Putney and the loco had problems at Romsey when running on diesel. We were there for over an hour as the loco had failed but eventually it started again. Hence we got a replacement loco for the return journey. This time we did go via East Putney to compensate for missing it out in the morning.
