John Pownall comments: I travelled on this excursion from Lime Street to Aberystwyth. It was hauled throughout by the same Class 40. I also travelled on The Vale of Rheidol to Devils Bridge during the layover. I’m pretty sure that the VoR trip optional and was included in the ticket price but I’m not 100% (It was a long time ago) The train travelled via Runcorn, Crewe and Shrewsbury before traversing the Cambrian line. Two of the three VoR locos were in steam. Our train was hauled by 9 'Prince of Wales' in BR blue with the double arrow symbol; 8 'Llewelyn' was also working trains while 7 was in the shed
