Notes :
(1) Originally uploaded as organised by the
Gainsborough Model Railway Society. Was booked to
have been hauled by 4472 from Stockton to Dunfermline Townhill on the outward
leg and back from Edinburgh Waverley to Darlington on the return.
(2) 4472 suffered
a blown superheater element at/near Newcastle on the return and assistance was
provided by D9007 'Pinza'.
The Chronicles of
Napier Website has D9007 only working as far as Darlington - did the train
terminate there, or continue to Stockton (if so, with what traction)?
(3) Terry Hutton comments: I was the fireman from Newcastle to Edinburgh and
return. The Scottish STN was amended on the day and 4472 worked through from
Inverkeithing (the diesel was not utilised) and there was no stop at
Craigentinny. After making the climb up Cockburnspath steam was shut off until
approaching Berwick when it then became apparent that there were problems.
Normal boiler pressure could not be attained and it was a struggle from there to
Newcastle to keep some semblance of booked time. A note was thrown out at
Morpeth explaining the problem and D9007 was attached at Newcastle.
