Brian Basterfield comments: the train left Northfield at 10.52am, called at Kings Norton, Selly Oak, Birmingham New Street, Saltley,  Tamworth High Level, Derby Midland, then Sheffield Midland, arriving at 1.33pm, 2 mins early. The return had 2 extra coaches to avoid the overcrowding that occurred on the outward journey. Sheffield departure was at 6.15pm, on time. With stops at Derby Midland, Tamworth High Level, and Saltley, we were into Birmingham New Street at 8.25pm, 5 minutes late. The football match was Sheffield United v Aston Villa.
