(2) This tour marked the 55th anniversary since the end of Southern Steam on 9th July 1967.
(3) John Clifford's comments: The tour ran satisfactorily on the outward journey. The ground was dry so that the chance of causing lineside fires needed to be minimised. On the outward run we ran over the Up reversible line from Templecombe to Yeovil Junction, with an arrival there 1 minute late. After detaching 35028 we made our way round to Yeovil Pen Mill. Here we were told that there had been a signal failure and a track circuit failure in the Dorchester area. On this day there were two other tours to Weymouth apart from ours. With a limited siding space at Weymouth, the E.C.S. off these tours had to be berthed at Yeovil Pen Mill. We waited for the 13.30 Weymouth - Yeovil Pen Mill E.C.S. to arrive, which it did arriving 16 minutes late. We set off 40 minutes late. We continued without further problems and got to Weymouth 37 minutes late. Returning to the station after sustenance, we found that the 16.36 return charter to Norwich had not left. It was awaiting a Guard, who arrived on a delayed down train. The Norwich train left 43 minutes late. With all the problems which had occurred we left Weymouth 49 minutes late. We had been booked to stand on the down line at Wool to let the 17.20 Weymouth - London Waterloo overtake us, but this move did not take place. Arrival at Southampton Goods Loop was 32 minutes late, but the lateness was reduced to 20 minutes on leaving. There was a check at Winchester, but no further problems were encountered. Arrival at Woking was 19 minutes late.
