This was the tour that was originally due to run on 9th July 2007 as a commemoration of 40 years since the end of Southern steam on 9th July 1967. That tour did not run as the stock could not be got to Waterloo in time following the failure of E850 'Lord Nelson' the previous day.
Highlights were a booked non-stop run from Waterloo to Salisbury & one from Southampton Central to Waterloo. The first was achieved but the second was not due to a short signal stop at Basingstoke. On the return run there was a stop outside Poole to allow the stock of an excursion to get away allowing us a good run up Parkstone bank. The run from Southampton had a number of signal checks including a short stand at Basingstoke & local line running from Basingstoke to Farnborough.
For those interested in detail, 47245 was allocated to Eastleigh during the last months of Southern steam. It was numbered D1922 at the time.
